Frech Toast Casserole and Buttermilk Syrup



Ingredients:
1 large loaf French bread, cubed
12 large eggs, slightly beaten
2 cups milk
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 oz cream cheese, cut into small pieces

Directions:
1. Put cubed bread on the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. Mix together the eggs, milk, syrup and vanilla in a bowl then pour over the bread.
2. Sprinkle small pieces of cream cheese over the top of the casserole then cover and refrigerate overnight.
3. In the morning, bake at 375 degrees for 35 - 40 minutes. Serve with buttermilk syrup.
Yields: 1 pan




Buttermilk Syrup

Ingredients: 
1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon vanilla


Directions:
1. In a large pan, heat butter, sugar, buttermilk and corn syrup over medium heat until its bubbling. Cook for 2 - 3 minutes at this point.
2. Remove from heat and add baking soda and vanilla. Stir until well blended. Serve warm. Keeps for 2 weeks in refrigerator.
Yields: 2 cups
